Sunday was Lumination's best moment as we came up with some new track, though they are instrumental and, to bassist Derrick Whitt, they are the best since the early days of the group. Mike just took off on guitar with the riffs he did and Gary was very much improving with following the tempo. Derrick was just being Derrick on bass...too experimental but came out with three new tracks which will be on Lumination's first EP. Still the tribute to Ben Orr is in the works but Lumination is coming up with their originals, and the band is featuring one of them now: Eye Candy and it is, at the moment, topped their rendition of Moving In Stereo. Do hear it and you can watch the video on YouTube. Believe us when we tell you before watching the video: don't be surprised to find this track being played at a strip club.

No practice today for us...Mike is maybe doing daddy duty (and it is very important now he is a dad). Gary has a head cold and does not want to pass it on to us and me...a broad problem. Next week, we will go at it again.

With his addiction to the hemp lettuce (marijuana) and the brazen demeanor of his girlfriend, Denard Drew is now out of the group. That means a door is open for new members to join us. We do need a rhythm guitarist to replace Drew and a keyboardist to make the band complete.

The Police does great as a trio but Lumination will not go there.

Say hello to our newest member and he is bringing his experience as drummer with Joe Whiting, Sharp dressed penguins, and Cousin Jake, and he has club, concert, and studio experience. Great guy to work with and hold it down. Lumination welcomes Gary McNamara!!!

From PR.com

Lumination has released a Cars-tribute track honoring the band, Orr.

Syracuse, NY, August 14, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Though the 80s New Wave rock band, The Cars, may have driven away from the music scene but the band's music inspired one local band to let the good times roll again by releasing their funk-fusion version of The Cars' "Moving In Stereo."

The quartet made The Cars sound more hipper and into the times.

However, vocalist and bassist Derrick Whitt, also host of Insight on The Word Radio, said that Lumination's version is a very special tribute to Benjamin Orr, Cars' vocalist and bassist who died of pancreatic cancer in 2000.

"Lumination wants to give Benjamin a fitting tribute and well deserving for his contribution to American rock music by doing this track and give it a funk sound to it," Whitt said.

Its version is found on Garage Band web site online. Lumination will release their debut EP, "Bringing Home The Cars" in October 2008. It will be live performances featuring classic hits like "Shake It Up", "My Best Friend's Girl", and "Magic".

Drew could not be in the jam session tonight because he had to work. David did not come because of work. It was just Derrick and Mike putting it out there, and just went stupified...talk about Mike's amazing riffs with his voice!!! He is embodied with Lumination's style. We had did some jamming to the Cars, Prince, Ozzy and some new jams: three compositions were written by Mike with a blues/rock thing Mike and I put together. That man is encouraging me to go right back to practice.

Hopefully, we can get all the members to jam and prepare for October 2008 when we hit the Syracuse music scene again but with some great guys to enhance Lumination's sound.

We are definitely hungry to play and get out the new sounds to Syracuse.

Get ready Syracuse!!! The Cars will be sounding good again!!!

Here's to Ric Ocasek, Benjamin Orr (1947-2000), David Robinson, Elliot Easton and Greg Hawkes...this is for you! Let the good times roll again...

Lumination is going through a major revamping. The biggest is having the great sounds of Bad Lands' Mike Payne as vocals and lead guitarist, and we are happy to introduce you to what Mike is bringing to Lumination.

However we are in need of a keyboardist and drummer so we ask that you give us a call (Derrick is allowing us to use his number as a contact number).

Started with Denard Drew (rhythm guitars) and Derrick Whitt (vocals, bass) Lumination had been performing at various church events and live events at the Rescue Mission in 2005. Added to the band is the electrifying sounds of lead guitarist and vocals Mike Payne, who had been with Black Cactus for ten years and drums, percussions and backing vocals veteran Gary McNamara.

As of October 5, 2008 Denard Drew is no longer a member of the band, leaving the door open for a rhythm guitarist to join Lumination.(moremore)
