She has distinguished herself in theater, cabaret, music as well as on television and radio. She is a class act with a versatile vocal repertoire ranging from Jazz, Contemporary, R&B and Soul, through to Cabaret and Musicals. And she is one of only a handful of performers to have emerged from South East Asia’s rich talent pool as a truly international vocalist, actor, comedian, and show host, with a string of awards and nominations to show. Leena first enthralled Singapore nightclub audiences during her seven year reign at the Boom Boom Room Cabaret as resident show host, performer and vocalist. Her heavenly voice and unique persona earned her fans and fame quickly, and within months landed a lead role in Singapore’s runaway hit TV sitcom Under One Roof. For that role she won the Best Comedy Actress Award in the Asian Television Awards 1998 and was first runner-up in 1999. A host of other television shows pursued, and in 2001 Leena was again awarded first runner-up for her role in The Odd Squad, a weekly TV program which she produced and presented. In between her singing and hosting engagements abroad, Leena took up the nightly lead role at Singapore’s award-winning cabaret restaurant Igor’s The Main Event where she reigned season after season acting, dancing, hosting and singing. The audience demanded that she held court as their leading lady in her sultry, supercharged portrayal of the Lady Vampira. In 2004 she moved to Australia, spurred on by her passion for live music and the challenge to expand her audience base and performing expertise. In a series of musical concerts, she shared the stage with the likes of the Australian Army’s 1RAR jazz band. The success of her foray into radio, co-hosting the 4ttt-FM daily morning radio program in North Queensland, led to further opportunities. Within months, Leena was producing and presenting three of her own daily music radio programs (Overnighters, Smooth Jazz and The Midday Program). Now based in Brisbane, Leena continues to devote her passion between stage and television. On stage, Leena is gaining recognition as a jazz vocalist, with a string of engagements in Brisbane and Asia. And back in the television industry, Leena is currently producing and presenting a number of new programs for Bite Me Productions. |
