| Joshua Cross I got interested in music at the age of 9 years old when I heard my uncle playing AMAZING GRACE on his accordion. The amazing grace for me was that this was at my father’s funeral. I was so inspired and overwhelmed with emotions that I began to put my feelings down on paper. At the age of 10, I was put into an orphanage. There my music just came alive - it was great; I mean my music - not the fact I was in an orphanage away from my family. You see with music I had something I could throw myself into and forget about all the hurt around me. At the age of 13 I started my first band and called the band NARROW EXPRESS. We played mostly cover songs except for the one song I had written called PRIVATE GIRL. I played the drums and was lead vocalist. We were together for about 3 years and then went our separate ways. I then began to play guitar and piano and started to do the solo thing and play a few different gigs including playing live on C.B.C TV. Doors were opened in many venues and it was great that people were hearing my music. At the age of 19 I moved to Ontario trying to make it in the music business. Things were hard and I found myself homeless on the streets of Toronto. It was so tough that I had to play guitar on the street to make some money to survive.Life was not easy. I felt lonely and miserable and headed back to Newfoundland. It was the summer of 1993. I reconnected with some of my friends and got the band together to try the music business again. It didn’t happen for us and some of the guys headed back to Newfoundland. I stayed and kept going. I’ve had a lot of up’s and down’s but here I am today seeing my Solo act go in all the right directions. It feels good to know that all the hard work is paying off; it goes to show where a little hard work can take you. Today you can hear my songs by down loading them from Lamplight.
