| (more) In Davey's Grip was started in late 2004 when accomplished rock drummer, Kim Urhahn, decided to pick up a guitar and explore her desire to pen a few tunes. Before long Kim found her voice in a collection of raw, hard-edged rock songs that showcased her ability to sound beautifully vulnerable and ridden with angst and emotion all in the same song. Having enlisted the help of some musician friends, a demo/EP was recorded at The Hive Studios in Burnaby BC in 2005. After some line-up changes due to scheduling and commitment problems, the band finally found a permanent bassist and drummer. Bass player Gregory M. originally came in as a temporary replacement, but soon realized that the music and vibe was exactly what he was looking for. Soon after, R answered Kim's ad and joined the band on drums. The rhythm section developed an instant chemistry and have come to be known simply as the "machine gun" due to their all out assault behind the vocals and guitar. Finding a guitarist proved to be a problem for the band, and soon a revolving-door of lead-guitarists came and went. Luckily, local rockgod Andrew West caught the band's show one night and upon hearing that they needed a guitar player asked if he could come out and jam. He came out. He rocked hard. He was in the band. Finally, Kim's search was over and the band is now ready to destroy any venue, any time. The vocal melodies are refreshing and complex, the music is hard and honest. The band has been described as "Helmet meets Veruca Salt", but anyone who's seen them live will simply call it "awesome". In Daveys Grip is currently blowing the roof off various venues around Vancouver and are looking forward to hitting the road across Canada soon...... |
