| Welcome To Tomorrow! Elby & The Rain core members Matt 'Dibbs' Elby and Andy Cochran met in 2000 at Darnal Music Factory in Sheffield, a now-defunct technical college providing courses in sound engineering and (music) business. Neither paid much attention to the majority of classes, but each recognised in the other an opportunity to hook up with a like-minded musician, in order to produce some great-sounding music. During their year at the DMF they recorded around a dozen rough demos mainly on four-track and, occasionally, on 16-track reel-to-reel. These tapes have since come to be known as The Dibbley Files. The pair have re-recorded many of those original songs at their home studio in Sheffield, as well as working with outside producers, such as Luke Scott (Babybird) and Alan Smythe (Seafruit, producer of early Pulp) at his 2Fly studio. Nowadays each of the guys has their own projects - Dibbs gigs regularly in a live band around Europe, and Andy writes, records and gigs with Kanako & The Numb Skulls in London - but each remains dedicated to the Elby project, producing catchy infectious music, with the aim of offering these tracks as song demos for other recording artists on the lookout for a good tune. Music lovers, we salute you. |
