As San Diego begins to recover from the devastations caused by last week's Wildfires, we continue to offer up our prayers and support for those who have been displaced - both physically AND emotionally.

Please join us at Hot Java Cafe, this Friday night (November 2) for an evening of music and coming together.

The new song I wrote (lyrics posted below) will be performed with my band.

It's in times like this that we realize what truly matters most.

God bless!

What Remains
©2007 Christiane Lucas

The sun's ablaze with colors of blood and gold
Saint Ana sings a requiem of gloom
Reminiscent of a time - not so long ago
When smoke rose to the sky in plumes

In the blink of an eye, in the turn of this moment
This electric sky exhales its fiercest breath
The wind cries in anguish, a sigh of deepest lament
A tragic prelude to what some may see as death

Chorus
But the fire comes to burn away all that which will not remain
And what's left standing in the flames is the hope we have to build again
And the fire comes to shake (tear) us down, so all that's left is this holy ground
In the ashes of what's lost we're found in the hope to live, the hope to live again

I look out through the eyes of salt-stained glass
My heart is heavy with despair
The world these hands have built has burned to earth like grass
And yet I am still standing here

And you are here beside me, sharing in this moment
And all that matters now is I am here with you
The heaviness that had started out as lament
Impresses now upon us the very flames of truth

Chorus

Bridge
Burn away — this all will just burn a—way
And in the flames is forged the faith to dream again
In the aftermath we find that we're not standing here alone
And what remains is what reminds us that it's not these walls that make our home

But the fire comes to burn away all that which will not remain
And what's left standing in the flames is the hope we have to build again
And the fire comes to shake (tear) us down, so all that's left is this holy ground
In the ashes of what's lost we're found in the hope to live, the hope to live again

Has summer already come and gone? The weather that sneaks into my room every morning has convinced me into thinking that it still may be April or May. I've got all my windows opened and the breeze that winds through reminds me of sweet spring weather.

Things are very good. I just got a new [to me], used Martin guitar. I finally got one with a cutaway and a decent factory-installed pickup. I am extremely excited about it! I can't wait for the next gig.. which is ... well, not sure when it will be. I want to focus as much energy as I can rehearsing with the new band and preparing to record some of the songs.

It's been a long time coming, and the more time it takes, the harder it will be to just be happy recording ONE CD! I think I might be looking at a 2-disc set at this point.... =0)

In any case, I hope everyone is enjoying what's left of this summer. But I live in San Diego.. so I guess I've got a few more years before summer ends.... ha ha! ;-)

Blessings!

It's been a while since I've been on here, and I have recently come to the conclusion that I really need to find a Manager or Booking Agent or something. You can't be an artist and do everything on your own. I really can't hold down a full time job and do this music on the side, expecting it to take off without much more effort on my part. But what can you do when you work hard all day and come home exhausted? Anyway, that's the current thought. Summer is for surfing and I'm hoping that my gig on August 3 will be a fun one for everyone there! Hope to see YOU there! :-)

HOW DID YOU GET SO MANY SONGS ON HERE?

Posted by Christiane Lucas on Fri Aug 19 '05 at 07:19PM

Man! Cane's has such a great sound! I can't wait to play there on the 30th. I went to see Thomas last night (The Downtown Moneywasters), and afterwards, The Story of Blue played. The sound is great, and I'm not sure if it's because the room was a normal weekday crowd, but it was a nice warm summer night at Cane's for sure. Don from TSoB rocked out! The guy was literally falling off his chair. Of course, the moneywasters always rock...

CHECK 'EM OUT!!!

Posted by Christiane Lucas on Mon Jul 25 '05 at 02:14PM

We had an awesome gig at Cosmos on Saturday (7/23), and I thank EVERYONE for coming out to see us play! It really means a lot to us to have your support.

I'm excited about the progression of things, although slow, I think that everything comes together in God's perfect timing, and even when I start to worry that this band thing will never take off, I have to remind myself that there is a natural progression. All I need to keep doing is continuing to press on like I have been.. things will fall in their proper place.

Needless to say, or rather, ... quite important to always re-iterate, it really makes a great difference when there are people who care and who have encouraged us to keep doing this. So really... THANK YOU!!! Yeah, YOU.. the person reading this right now.. the one taking time out of their busy schedule to read these thoughts, to listen to the music, to come out to the shows. THANK YOU for caring!

Much love,
Christiane

To Be Found(C)CLucas2005

This is a misunderstanding
I never meant it this way
If my concerns were demanding
It's not what I had to say
And your mysterious reaction
I don't know if I believe
Or was it just a distraction
Is this where I have to leave?

(chorus)
I know there's something more out there that you see
But I'm not quite sure that I'm ready, please
I'll drive this heart right down to my knees
My eyes are closed, I believe, help my unbelief
I'd get lost just to be found

I sometimes feel like I'm fading
Or that I struggle to breath
In shallowness I've been waiting
To be found lost in the deep
You called my bluff in an instant
I never wanted this shame
Don't leave me in this desperate attempt
To cry the sound of your name

(chorus)

(bridge)
This life leaves me so empty
The gold of this world will never do
I need you, breathe into this vast lonely
Call my name, call my name, and I'll run to you
Call my name, call my name, and I'll run to you
Call my name, call my name

Etienne (eT), thanks for your message!

I DO have to say that we ROCKED the opening act at O'Connell's last Saturday! Thanks again to Thomas (Downtown Moneywasters) for inviting us out to open for you! I can't say enough about this last gig.. I had so much fun, and I have to really say that that was probably the BEST we've played as a group all year! Alicia, your violin melodies were charged, girl! Jack, I always love what you do on the electric, and you rock with your new e-bow. Tom, I think some of my favorite parts of the songs are your bass lines! (Dream your face..Still I will..). And Jimmy, Jimmy.. jimmy, jimmy.. what can I say but... "PLEASE JOIN THE BAND!!!"

Anyway, Thanks to everyone who came out. I hope that soon I will have news of us recording our new CD together with all the current "members" playing with us..

I was thinking about it this morning.. it will really have to be a double-disc-set because we're actually having to cut songs out of our live playlist. That is a good thing! I hope to never stop writing.

Anyway, thanks again to everyone who continues to listen to our rehearsal clips. One day soon, I really HOPE we'll have more than just a clip.

God bless you all and keep listening and voting! :)
<3, Christiane

Christiane - love reading your blogs and updates ... keep it going!! We played O'Connells and it's a cool gig.

Posted by Christiane Lucas on Mon Jun 13 '05 at 06:01PM

So I am tremendously excited about our upcoming gig this Saturday, the 18th, at O'Connell's. We have the honor of having Jimmy McGeehee, a good friend of ours, play drums for this show! We had a rehearsal last weekend, and I'd have to say (this would be more valid if I WASN'T in the band), but we ROCKED! You guys won't want to miss Jimmy playing with us. I think we found our studio drummer... :)

Tom is trying to convince Jimmy to quit his job and play for us full time. I think J should do it!

So there you go! I'm hoping that pretty soon here, we'll have a professional recording of a FULL song so you can actually hear the whole thing as it's supposed to sound!

How exciting.
Peace.

Posted by Christiane Lucas on Fri Jun 10 '05 at 05:12PM

Wow!! All 5 rehearsal clips are in the SD Top 10! (And 4/5 in the GLOBAL Top 20!) Thank you to everyone who is voting for us and helping us rise to the top! So to speak.

We're still looking for a committed drummer. We really appreciate eveyone's support and hope to meet you at our gigs!

Bless you!
Christiane

Posted by Christiane Lucas on Wed Jun 8 '05 at 01:35AM

Hey Everyone!
I'm stoked to see that 4 out of 5 of our REHEARSAL recordings are currently in the San Diego top 20!!! Thank you guys so much for listening! I am hoping that VERY SOON we will be able to have something more for you all to listen to, rather than just rehearsal CLIPS.

If you get a chance, please email me and let me know what you think about the songs, what you like, if you want more bass, more electric guitar, more rockstar poses.. oh wait, you can't see that on here, can you?

We're still looking for a committed drummer who can help us really rock out, so spread the word. We can't record a full length CD without the drummer, so if you want those full-length songs, then pray, wish, send good thoughts for that drummer for our band!

Again, thanks so much for your support! I'd love to hear from you, so shoot me an email and let's continue to show San Diego that LOCAL musicians love each other!!!

God bless!
Christiane

Gravity (C)CLucas2005

Oh Great Star in the sky, light up my moon, I'm your satellite
Fill all my darkness with light, let me reflect your peace, you're the one makes me shine

Oh Great Peace of this world, fill up my heart, I'm your little girl
Fill every part of my pain, though I cry in my sorrow, let me laugh once again

When my world stops turning, you'll be the flame that keeps on burning
When my heart is heavy, won't you overcome my gravity

Oh Great Hope of my life, you know my ways and the thoughts of my mind
Where can I run from your sight, from the depths down below to the universe high

When I rise on the wings of the dawn, surely your Spirit will be guiding me on
Though I flee to the ends of the sea, even there your right hand will fast be holding me

Oh Great Love of my heart, to you and you alone I've belonged from the start
You see what shadows enclose, still you gather me in and you hold me close

When my world stops turning, you're still the flame that keeps on burning
When my heart is heavy, won't you overcome my gravity

(repeat first verse)

I'm yours...
I'm yours...
I'm yours...
I'm yours...

(Something Like) Wonderful (C)CLucas2005

Hey now there, wait 'til you get a load of this
There's so much more out there you won't want to miss
There's something so much more inviting than the emptiness inside
Something like wonderful

And do you know where you're going, or do you need a map?
Aw, when you get lost, there's no turning back
There's something so much more exciting than the world you leave behind
Something like wonderful

(Chorus)
Could this (you) be for real?
I can't feel the earth underneath
Hold still, I think I forgot to breath
Wait, I will have everything to gain if I could lose
Lose myself to be found in you

Now what's that you're saying
If I could lose myself, well that's the best thing to loving someone else
There's something so much more in dying
When you're brought to life to find treasures more wonderful (chorus)

(Bridge)
How can I be the one you chose to love?
You chose to love
Why, when I'm so undone, you're so enough
So much more than enough
Everything I could ever want
All the good that I am not
You are, you are
Something like wonderful
You are
Something more wonderful

Ode (C)CLucas2005

I don't know what I have to say
I don't know why I'm here today
I just know that I wouldn't be the same without you

Times may come and times may go
But this for sure that I do know
It really wouldn't be the same here without you

Lodedie aliey liey lieyde lieyde diey...

I could rise or I could fall
But even if I could stand tall
It really wouldn't be the same here without you

Clouds could cover up the sky
Or winds blow for the sun to shine
It really wouldn't be the same here without you

Lodedie aliey liey lieyde lieyde diey...

(Bridge)
And the world keeps on spinning, whether or not you are here
But though we're not in the same places we've been
This I know and this I bring
A humble sort of offering
That really wouldn't be the same here without you
No, it really wouldn't be the same here without you

I could laugh and I could cry
Could you ever understand why
It really wouldn't be the same here

I could live and I may die
I'd still exist within your eyes
But it really wouldn't be the same here without you
No, it really wouldn't be the same here without you
No, it really wouldn't be the same here without you
Without you
Without you
Without you

Lodedie aliey liey lieyde lieyde diey...

Dream Your Face (C)CLucas2005

I've been here, I've seen things
The way you work is a mystery
You smell of angels when
You're sitting next to me

And I don't know how I have come to see this side of things
Tell me I'm going places, someday soon I'll wear your wings
Night shines like the day
When I dream your face

Underneath your starlight
The world begins to glow
There's something in your smile
You know what no one knows

And I don't know how I got picked to see what's going on
Go wherever you want as long as you take me along
Night turns into day
When I dream your face

(Bridge)
I know I've fallen for your fabulous disguises
And I'll admit I'm always one for your surprises
You always show yourself soon as the need arises
Faith opens up my eyes, faith opens up my eyes
Faith opens up my eyes
When I dream your face

I've been here, I know things
Things are not what they seem
This world makes as much sense
As living in a dream

And all I know is that when I'm with you the sky's ablaze
The darkest night can shine the sunlight of a thousand days
My whole world can change
When I dream your face

Schizophrenia (C)CLucas2005

I haven't yet been diagnosed with schizophrenia
But I believe I'm suffering from some dementia
I don't know who I am, cannot remember what I said
Are you sure those weren't just one of the voices in my head

(Chorus)
I'm drowning in the sea and I cannot even see
Salt water's coming up all around me
I'd like to take a breath so that I can scream and shout
I'm holding out my hand for someone to pull me out
Please listen

They sneak up from behind, all of the things left in my past
But I don't really mind until they bite me in the I-I
Think I am alone, but I am not really ever
See, it's really so much fun when all the me's are here together

We're drowning in the sea and we cannot even see
Salt water's coming up all around and we
We'd like to take a breath so that we can scream and shout
I'm holding out my hand, would someone please come pull me out
Please listen

(Bridge)
Well there couldn't be worse communication in the world
Than the kind that just 'lies' between a boy and a girl
You got something to say, well I'm ready to listen
Or should we just jump cuz babe I think this ship is sinking

You're not the only one, I guess I can be quite confusing
But hold on just a minute now, before you go accusing
I'd like to take the blame but this is your problem too
I thought we weren't playing games but you're not telling me the truth

We're drowning in the sea and we cannot even see
Salt water's coming up all around and we
We'd like to take a breath so that we can scream and shout
We're holding out our hand for someone to pull us out

Oh yeah, we're drowning in the sea and we cannot even see
Salt water's coming up all and around and we
We'd like to scream and shout but we cannot even breathe
If we could get out would we ever really leave
If we could get out would we really ever leave
If we could get out would we really be set free

Please listen

it's so interesting that over three years ago, i started up "ArtistCollector" with the intent of developing a network of artists and creative people to connect with each other. since then, all these other e-communities have sprung up. it's great! i hope that artists can do more work together to get the local music scene at a place where it will really thrive!

It's hard to imagine life without music, and sometimes, music is such a part of a person's life, that that person doesn't even realize where the music begins and where it ends. For Christiane Lucas, even if the guitar isn't sitting out, even if the radio isn't on or the iTunes window up, some sort of strain is running through her brain, some melody or chorus creates a soundtrack for her to live by.

Christiane has been involved in the San Diego music scene since 1994, playing around the UCSD campus and various coffee shops in the community. Before that, she found inspiration watching various local bands in Los Angeles. In 1999, she recorded her first full-length professional, original album called Voices Will Be Heard, which was produced by herself and Josquin des Pres (co-writer with Elton John's lyricist, Bernie Taupin). Studio musicians that played on the CD include talents who have played with The Young Dubliners, Aerosmith, Cher, Richard Marx, Rod Stewart and Elton John. Throughout the past years, Christiane has continued to play with some amazing musicians, as well as share the stage with local celebrities like Jason Mraz, Switchfoot, Gregory Page and Carlos Olmeda.

But what makes her most excited is jamming with that small group of friends that she loves playing with, or playing a show where you can count the number of people in the crowd on one hand, but where she can have a meaningful and inspiring conversation afterwards. It's always a challenge for anyone involved in performance to maintain the perspective of why they are doing what they're doing, and with Christiane, looking at things from different angles is a way she keeps her focus in check. She is not only involved in music, but in networking, design, photography and art.

So what about her music? The eclectic style can be best defined by "pop rock". Her past influences have included Toad the Wet Sprocket, Counting Crows, Tori Amos, Sarah Masen, U2, REM, Jennifer Knapp, Jars of Clay, Simon & Garfunkel, Jim Croce, the 80s (yeah, the whole decade), Pearl Jam, and her network of talented friends. The writing style is like presenting a riddle, where you can decipher the meaning in different ways, but with one underlying truth. Christiane's background has helped her to express herself in a way where others think "Wow, someone else feels that way too." Yeah, yeah,... that's pretty much how everyone feels when they hear a song they like.. but that's what make music good, isn't it? Being able to relate to it.

Anyway, you probably think this bio was written by Christiane. And you'd be right. Any writers out there wanna write a REAL bio for me?
