“To inspire awe and admiration”, is the meaning of this Toronto based duo known as ‘august' . Described as having a vibe on stage that is smooth and intoxicating, singer/songwriter Andi D and bassist/writer Jen Benton truly are an august sight! With one glance at this dynamic pair, there will be no disputing that these girls are talented and seasoned artists whose songwriting and stage performance undoubtedly leaves the audience wanting more.

Ben and D (as their nick names have it), met in the spring of 2001 and slowly began developing their collaboration. First showcasing as a rock outfit, august began making their mark on the Canadian Indie-Music scene in the summer of 2002. Participating in numerous notable events over the next three years, august developed a tremendous expansion in their fan base as well as finding home in the spotlights of the stage.

August enjoyed the successes from their high intensity performances but also started to experiment with the intimacy and musical versatility of an acoustic setting. Adapting their music with ease, Andi's silky vocals and beautiful lyrics in harmony with Ben's melodic and compelling bass lines are undeniably magnificent. As well, this setting allows Ben to showcase her all-around bass talents by performing with her upright. Currently, august performs with various talented musicians from southern Ontario .

As writers, Andi D's influences have strong roots in the songwriting and acoustic genres while Jen is a ‘rocker' and ‘funker' at heart, as well as a trained jazz bassist and classical lover. Together, their music creates a sound that is a refreshing and original mixture.

In the 5 years that august has been working together they have performed extensively across southern Ontario . August has also performed their music at such festivals as NXNE, CMW , Pride Toronto , Burlington Sound of Music, Indie Music Week - Nashville Tennessee, Toys for Tots Benefit Concert - Buffalo New York, as well as being a featured artist on SonicBids.com . In 2005, Ben was honored with an award from Garageband.com - “13th best written bass line” for their song ‘Misbelieving'.

August released an independent EP in 2003 with producers Darius Szczepaniak and Sean Baillie. Presently, august is peforming throughout the Greater Toronto Area and booking their summer festival schedule. They are also recording demos in preparation for an upcoming full length album to be released later this year.
