Apr 29, 08 New York Band wants Any Musician Learn and Perform Brasilian Samba Percussion with Samba New York! Samba Percussion Course with Philip Galinsky, Ph.D., Director of Samba New York! Samba New York! is about to launch into an sizzling summer season of workshops, parades, and gigs. Start a four-week percussion course with Samba New York! on May 5-- come and learn the fundamentals of the rhythms of Rio de Janeiro, and Samba New York!'s unique arrangements. Beginners will focus on the technique of the samba school Bateria (percussion ensemble) instruments such as the surdo, caixa, repinique, and tamborim, and (as needed) chocalho, agogô, and cuíca. Students will learn the rhythmic structure and swing of samba, and simple arrangements. Advanced students will learn further techniques and arrangements, and these classes will serve as rehearsals for performances of the Samba New York! Bateria. Advanced classes are by invite only. Students taking the beginner level are encouraged to master the basics quickly and move to the advanced level. Dedicated students may be asked to join the performance group.
