Everyone, Anyone, And IStill looking ... Minneapolis Any Musician wants Band Just moved to Minneapolis, need to start a band ASAP!!! I am a singer/ songwriter interested in finding creative musicians in the Twin Cities area. I recently moved from Chicago, where I had a casual band during college, but upon moving, now am very very interested in starting a full-time band as I am no longer a student. My short-term goals are I want to make some good music and play gigs on a regular basis. I have approximately 20 original songs and am basically interested in finding musicians who can be creative and expand upon the songs to make them more complete. Of course, new material and innovation are always welcomed as well. Personal creativity is essential and strongly encouraged. All I truly care about is the lyrics and the very basic construct of the songs (basic chords and melody), the rest is completely up to the other band members. Skill level and musical theory knowledge isn't extremely important, but more so is capturing the emotions and feelings of the songs. I am extremely easy to get along with and encourage advice, criticism and suggestions whenever possible. I am an above average guitarist having played for over eight years, and I usually play acoustic, but I do enjoy electric guitar and rocking out as many of my songs necesitate. Earlier this year, my Les Paul and bass were stolen from my college house, and since then I have not been able to play electric guitar. However, I am very serious about strating a band, and I have no issues at all about buying a new electric guitar in the near future if it proves necessary. On a semi-downside, I am not extremely knowledgable as far as improvisation goes, nor have I really put in much time learning to read music. The songs I have created thus far are mine for the moment, but I want to stress that once they are introduced into the band they become all of ours and have free reign to evolve and improve. Members of the band must be open to criticism, dedicated, non-judgemental, and ready to have a good time. I moved to Minneapolis on a personal whim. Therfor, I do not know anyone here who knows any instruments. Thus, I need a bassist, a lead guitarist, a pianist, a drummer, and anyone else who knows a valuable instrument will be seriously considered. Musicians should not dominate a practice (i've had bandmates that won't stop soloing throughout a whole practice. it's annoying and distracting), and not be restricted to the boundaries of one certain way of musical thought. I am 23, so a preferred range of age is probably between 17 and 30 years of age. Someone with knowledge in recording and the technical aspect of music would also be gladly welcomed, but is not even close to a must. Influences include Jens Lekman, Death Cab for Cutie, Elliot Smith, Sufjan Stevens, Bright Eyes, Pete Yorn, Ben Kweller, Coldplay's "Parachutes" album, and Beck (more Sea Change-ish however) to name a very few. The songs are melodic, but extremely thought-driven and hard-rocking at times. I HATE conventional pop, so by melodic it should not be misunderstood as feable-minded. The lyrics are poignant, serious, accessible, and intelligent, but certainly not pretensious. I HATE ptretensiousness, too! Short term goals include hoping to play shows around the Twin Cities and record an album. Everything else relies on how well we gel and what the future holds. I myself haven't played a live gig in a year and a half, so I am extremely anxious to play in front of people again. If this sounds interesting to you and you would like more information contact me at ccederberg@northpark.edu. Later, Chuck!
