Musician Wanted
Still looking ... Nashville Singer wants Band Award winning country artisit seeking hot band Mark Newland's background in music and television began before he was born in New York City on March 14. He may tell you that it may be hereditary. His musical roots come from his late famous grandfather, Louie Bond, whose stage name was Johnny Guitar. Mark also has a couple of well-known actors, writers and producers in his family, but he will not let us toss those names around. Mark's love for music and acting was immediately apparent. He took up the guitar at the age of seven, after his father bought him a ten dollar guitar in Mexico. By the time he reached high school, Mark was enrolled in acting classes and composing songs. At the ripe "young" age of 15, he soon formed his first band named Black Diamond and they were off playing for all school events. We are talking about 3, 000 rock fans, and 10 bands all promoted, produced and headlined by Mark and sometimes an old high school friend named Scott Hamilton. He even wrote a song that later became a top 10 hit on the pop charts. Mark will release this song again soon. By the time he was out of high school, he had mastered the guitar, drums, bass guitar, and was even playing piano, and backing vocals. Mark made a living promoting huge outdoor concerts until he was around 20 years old. While doing a radio interview in 1979 on KIKX radio in Tucson, Arizona, Mark was introduced to a talent scout for the Young American Showcase of Music and Arts. Over ten thousand artists auditioned for this Florida based school. Mark was picked to front the super rock group Freedom Jam backed by American Showcase. In one year, he toured the country playing in front of over one million high school students, all part of his long-term plan to market his name and hone his stage craft and skills. During the 1980's, Mark fronted the band Victory managed by Elton John's former manager, Charley Murdock. His big country music change came in 1999 when he penned a song for his girl at the time. He sent it to a friend at MTV, who played it for a Nashville producer and before Mark knew it, he was off to Music Row. Many thousands of rock and country artists walk Music Row seeking help from artist development companies and never even get an interview. But knowing Mark, it is no big surprise that he was invited through the first door he knocked on, soon after he was signing his first artist record development deal out of Nashville. Mark recorded and released his first country music album in 2000, titled "Mark Newland, The Country Lives In Me". Some of the songs on that album were written by Richard Marx, REO Speedwagon and Mark. The album received numerous nominations and awards, including the North American Country Music Association International's 2000 Most Promising Album of the Year. Later that year, the Los Angeles country music radio station KIKS.FM awarded Mark with the April 2000 Artist of the Month Award. Mark shared this huge spotlight with such artists as Vince Gill, Faith Hill, The Dixie Chicks and nine other country stars who were also awarded this great accomplishment. In 2000, Mark was invited to appear on Dick Clark's production of the American Country Music Awards in Hollywood. He was seated front-row center beside Kenny Chesney, Garth Brooks and Shania Twain. Mark received world-wide publicity that night doing interviews with radio stations from around the world. He appeared the following night with Shania Twain and Joe Diffie on the television show Hot Country where he was interviewed by the San Diego country radio station 93.7 KSON on a live world-wide broadcast from California. Mark also appeared with Toby Keith, Terry Clark and Montgomery Gentry for an exclusive one-hour, fun-packed backstage television shoot. The year 2001 also brought Mark other impressive awards: the California Country Music Association's 2001 Male Vocalist of the Year, as well as 2000 Song of the Year for the song "Girl I've Had It" written by Kent Blazey. Mark did many TV and radio appearances that opened some major eyes in Hollywood, including a well-known talented actress from Malibu, California (who we cannot name) who introduced him to one of country music's biggest names on Music Row. Mark was off to Nashville again, this time to co-write his long-awaited new songs written with Kent Blazey, Mel Besher, Harley Allan and Larry Johnson. Mark plays bass guitar and drums on two of the tracks on this record. While living in Nashville, Mark was blessed with the opportunity to perform at the Country Music Hall of Fame on Music Row, before other country music artists who were in the audience that night including Toby Keith, Jamie O'Neil, Terry Clark and Montgomery Gentry. Toby Keith praised Mark's stage skills, saying he is a great song writer, well on his way. Also in the audience were other hit song writers by the names of Mel Besher, Kent Blazey Larry Johnson and Harley Allen. These great song writers, who have written hits for Tim McGraw, Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Faith Hill and many others, would play a very important part in Mark's on-going and ever-growing popularity in country music and on Music Row. Larry Johnson wrote the smash hit "Don't Take the Girl" for Tim McGraw. Kent Blazey had penned the song "The Only Good Years" for Garth Brooks but Mark was blessed and the song was recorded by Mark and placed as the last song on his new record "Lonely Makes It Easy In 2003, Mark was invited to perform for the U.S. Navy for over 7, 500 troops aboard the U.S.S. J.C Stenniss Aircraft Carrier that had been serving in Iraq. Mark spent four days at sea and put on one hell of a show that will never be forgotten, entertaining and performing a one-hour action packed show, then signing autograghs for over two and one-half hours after the concert.many hits we can't even name them all. Mel Besher wrote many hits for Alan Jackson and Dina Carter. A Nashville reporter from the magazine "Inside Music Row" nicknamed Mark "The Music Row Dynamo". Later that year, the same magazine rated Mark's album "Lonely Makes It Easy" with a seven-star rating along side Joe Diffie, who also recieved seven stars. Mark signed with Stargazer Records in Nashville in 2004 and released his much-anticipated album "Lonely Makes It Easy" which launched a huge publicity and marketing race to place him on the Who's Who list in country music. This album was produced by Mark and Wayne Nelson from The Little River Band, with Wayne singing backing vocals with Mark. Country Music Today Magazine took a special liking to Mark when he was featured in five of the monthly issues produced by CMT publications. Mark went to the one and only master mixer, Hank Williams, to mix and master his new record. When Mark arrived at the studio, Hank was just finishing the final mix on Tim McGraw's new album "Live Like You Were Dying", so Mark got to listen to some of Tim's record before the world had heard it. Hank had a great impact on Mark's CD new sound, and Mark's album has now been played on 500 radio stations around the world. By now, Mark was featured in many of the major country music magazines as an up and coming, rising star. He was invited on a tour in France, but the tour would never happen due to management conflicts. In 2004, Country Music Today invited Mark to appear at the CMT Country Music Festival. Then in June of 2005, CMT Magazine invited Mark to appear at the CMT booth for a "meet and greet" with all of his new-found CMT fans. That same year, he found himself sitting in Danny Morrison's living room, requesting his input. Danny took Tim McGraw under his wing way back when Tim was playing the Broadway clubs in downtown Nashville and he managed Tim McGraw and Joe Diffie for many years. Now he was offering to help Mark. Over time, Mark and Danny develped a working relationship and a partnership was formed. In April of 2005, Mark was added to the roster for the Academy of Country Music Awards Harley Davidson Benefit Ride in Las Vegas, appearing with Lone Star, Dierks Bently, Montgomery Gentry, the Warren Brothers, Trick Pony, Shelly Fairchild and many, many more country artists. Mark was interviewed along with country music star Dierks Bently on the Canadian Country Music Television network. In March of 2006, Mark fired his long time manager Kenny Turner of Mile High Talent and in May 2006 Mark filmed his first country music video for his song " Where You Stand" written by Mark in hope of getting air play on CMT. Now drawing on his earlier TV hosting experience with his own television show "Hot Country" Mark is currently producing and hosting two new television shows Country Star TV and Today's Country Music directed by Braxtan Films. Mark has now featured Shania Twain, Terri Clark, Toby Kieth and Montgomery Gentry on the show. Mark's other love is for the martial arts. He holds a Sixth Degree Black Belt in Kenpo and Tae Kwon Do and is ranked by the same Master Instructor that certified and ranked Elvis Presley, Master Kang Rhee, founder of the World Black Belt Bureau. Mark is also the founder of The American Black Belt Association. Mark Newland's background in music and television began before he was born in New York City on March 14.
